A Quick Newsletter from MinuteEarth
Hello and welcome back!
This is MinuteEarth’s guide to the best science content from our studio and beyond. Every edition includes stuff we’re working on, along with other cool new science-related stories we want you to know about - plus some original games just for subscribers! Make sure to subscribe below so you never miss a minute 🙂.
Lately Behind The Scenes
We’re currently working on a video about the breakthrough that led scientists to be able to determine the exact internal body temperatures of dinosaurs - and finally settle the warm-blooded/cold-blooded debate once and for all! And this storyboard sketch makes me smile because it looks like the researcher and T. rex are having an earnest discussion about where, exactly, that thermometer should go :)
Minute Videos
Here are some videos our team has released on our various channels over the last few weeks!
MinuteEarth
The Deadliest Thing At The Beach
A neat explainer - just in time for the dog days of summer - that dives into the details about why rip currents form and how they work - and what you should do if you ever get caught in one.
MinuteFood
The Weirdest Ingredient You SHOULD Be Using
Over at MinuteFood, Kate takes viewers on a trip to the beach to harvest seaweed - and explains why seaweed’s adaptations to marine living make it such a uniquely useful ingredient in all sorts of dishes.
MinuteMinis
Over at MinuteMinis, Cameron explains why a single fluffy cloud can weigh more than a million pounds.
Creative Corner ✨
For our Instagram, Lizah made a comic that combines her love of animal biology with her love of dressing up:
We’re currently kicking around ideas for a new book (!!), and Sarah created this fun background image for one of our sample chapters…
Arcadi made some fun drawings - as well as some stick figures of a few of our favorite foodies - for Helen Rennie’s great new video about salad dressing
Cool Science Stuff We Found This Week
A fascinating New York Times story about how vultures save human lives by eating diseased carrion.
Dr. Inés Dawson (from YT channel Draw Curiosity) deep dives into why bees are so hairy. They have so many freaking uses for hair!
Adam Ragusea digs into the arcane (and super frustrating) reasons that YouTube sometimes demonetizes videos - and why crickets are involved.
Project Rattlecam. If you like snakes, you’ll get a kick out of these amazing livestreams of some of the largest rattlesnake rookeries in the United States.
