Lately Behind The Scenes

We’re currently working on a video about so-called “living fossils” - organisms that seem to have stayed exactly the same over millions of years while the rest of the world has evolved around them. This scene cracks me up because it looks like I’m arguing with a sassy stick-figure Darwin.

Cool Science Stuff We Found This Week

  1. Currently Hannah does a deep dive into the science of different types of sunscreen - complete with a super nerdy spreadsheet and a hilarious skin square experiment.

  2. Ok so this video about building a mic from scratch is three years old, but our team recently got re-obsessed with it as we try to figure out how to produce the best audio quality possible.

  3. As long as we’re geeking out about old videos, I recommend getting your hair blown back by the amazing animation in this video about the electron transport chain.

  4. One of our favorite YouTube channels - Every Frame A Painting - is going to release new video essays soon!

  5. A recent study highlighted in the New York Times found that ants perform amputations on their nest mates, but only if those nest mates have certain types of injuries (ie those in which getting a limb amputated make the ant more likely to survive). Wild stuff.

  6. Emily Lin made a silly TikTok about cilantro:
