Just A Minute: Volume 7
A Quick Newsletter from MinuteEarth
Hello and welcome back!
This is MinuteEarth’s guide to the best science content from our studio and beyond. Every edition includes stuff we’re working on, along with other cool new science-related stories we want you to know about - plus some original games just for subscribers! Make sure to subscribe below so you never miss a minute 🙂.
Lately Behind The Scenes
We’re currently working on a video about whether AI can replace actual human scientists. But that involves understanding exactly what scientists do - and it turns out that scientists do all sorts of stuff. I really love this storyboard because it gets at the fact that - even in super technical fields - a lot of science requires creativity.
Minute Videos
Here are some videos our team has released on our various channels over the last few weeks!

I'm giving away 14 years of drawings
I’m not Henry, so I can’t say for sure that I know exactly what it feels like to make this video. But having watched him create amazing MinutePhysics videos for the last decade plus, I know how important these drawings are to him, and how lucky his Patreon members are to be able to own a physical piece of YouTube history. If you can afford to, I encourage you to support MinutePhysics on Patreon and claim an original drawing before they’re all gone at the end of the month.

We Only Discovered This 10 Years Ago
Scientists recently discovered an organism that upended our assumptions about how living things get the energy they need to survive. This is the story of cable bacteria, which form an electric conga line to get the best of two very different worlds.

Microwaving Metal is FINE (sometimes)
Watching Kate fill her microwave with a variety of metal objects made me cringe. It looks and feels so wrong! But - through a combination of science and cute drawings - she convinced me that, most of the time at least, microwaving metal is perfectly fine, and sometimes it’s even a good idea!
xkcd’s What If?
What if Earth grew 1cm every second?
Like most xkcd stories, this one ends in (spoiler alert!) disaster. But it’s super interesting to see how we’d get there, and really weird that it would take so long for certain things to fail.
Creative Corner ✨
We FINALLY launched the MinuteEarth Podcast, available on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. Now, you can listen to your favorite episodes in the car or anywhere else. New episodes are uploaded every day - with bite-sized MinuteMinis on the weekend. Please check it out and subscribe!
Arcadi was featured on Valencian TV while wearing a pretty cool sweatshirt.
Ever and his friends created some iconic halloween costumes. You need to watch this reel about it:
Lizah managed to get a great pic of the aurora! Apologies that there’s a person in the way partially obscuring the awesome view (jk that’s Lizah).
Cool Science Stuff We Found This Week
Our friends at Kurzgesagt dug super deep into the annals of medical history to figure out where one of the most famous - and wrong! - facts about the human body came from.
Every once in a while, the New York Times publishes an article that reads like a MinuteEarth script. This one - about how many continents there actually are - is just that sort.
Our friend Anand Varma has an amazing lab in which he creates extraordinary photos.
